Another set - Maks Danilin

This was a leftover from yesterday's post that i forgot to add.  Used a Silvertone filter for the lily pads and slight ripples in the water.
I got a chance to go back to roaring brook today and had great sunlight.  There were a lot of logs that fell into the stream and cast shadows on the different pools and waterfalls.
This shot I tried to focus on the algae growing on the rock.  I used the focus tool to draw the eye to the center of the image.
This was a shot that was under lots of tree cover and gave it almost a cave look.  The light was hitting the water falling on the rocks and cast a shadow on the surrounding structures.
The transparency of the leaves caught my eye and the sun shining through gave it a nice shadow/light effect.  Taken from underneath the tree with the tree tops in the background.
This was an old tree, that is rotting away, with a wood board leaning on it.  The light illuminated the outer edges of the tree giving you an inside look into the trunk.
This shot was a pool of water that had the rocks naturally surrounding one rock in a circular pattern.  It moved the water in an interesting flow and centered around the middle stone.  The top view makes it hard to tell but the center stone came out of the water.

  1. Wow... I was pleased to see some more posted here. I can tell you really enjoyed your time in the woods following the water. The work shows it. I might brighten the top image a little bit more using levels. I do like that series that with the lily pads. The shot with the sunlight filtering through the beech leaves is well seen and edited!

One thing to watch out for is to avoid both blocked up blacks and blown out highlights... it can be tricky as the contrast range when it's sunny out, and you're in the woods can be a bit too high for a digital camera. Actually the best time to shoot in the woods is on a cloudy day, or even a rainy day... that way you avoid some of the extreme contrast that you are running into.

I am a sucker for all the water shots that show light and texture.
